I don't know why I like these Outback sedans, but I do.

YASSSS.

No manual available, but the 3.0 has timing CHAINS and no COMMON head gasket problems.

And they sound BA when opened up.

I was looking at Imprezas/Outback Sports to replace my Civic, but the head gasket/timing belt combo drove me away.

If I had realized these were immune, I might’ve bought one instead of the Mazda.

With factory lift.. The reason I passed was the leather/wood trim was a but too nice to get covered in mud and grime..

early ej22 impreza wagon worked better for less.

My wife had one, though not the 3.0. She loved it, but it did have the obligatory head gasket issue at 65k. I can say that I didn’t like it because I felt more like I was sitting on it rather than in it. It’s like it was designed for five footers rather than six footers.

Also insurance; the Outback is seen as a family wagon/sedan versus boy racer Impreza.

You could have swapped the EZ30 into an Impreza....

I liked those. A little bit harder to find than the Outback wagon everyone seemed to have.

Holy crap I forgot about these things. Wouldn’t it basically be a slightly jacked up legacy sedan with extra body cladding?

I’m not interested in DD a project car. My job puts me on the road for about 40 hours and 450 miles every week, I can’t afford to be chasing down gremlins or dealing with homebuilt quirks.

I had a feeling my reply was too serious...

There are just so many people here who put no value in practicality or reliability, so it’s can be hard to tell some times.

Boy racers crashing into things does ensure a good supply of parts though, and because the Impreza platform has been the same since forever my 98 got 2005 suspension and rsb for $100.. plus the take-off exhaust from our 08 EJ25 Forester.. plus wrx wheels and tires for another $20..

Cheap parts make good rally cars..

the head gasket and timing belt really isn’t a big of a deal as people make them out to be. Simple fix.

I know exactly how big of a deal it is and I’m not interested. It’s that simple.
